Krista Schlyer

Krista Schlyer is a freelance photographer and writer, based in the metropolitan Washington DC area. Krista focuses on long-term conservation projects, creating bodies of work and conservation campaigns around imperiled landscapes and watersheds. Her work has included decade-long projects on the US-Mexico borderlands and the Anacostia River watershed in Washington DC, as well as shorter projects on the longleaf pine ecosystem, pitcher plant bogs, ocean exploration and national public lands.

Krista has published four books, including two National Outdoor Book Award winners; and many stories and photos with BBC, Newsweek, Audubon, National Wildlife, Ranger Rick, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver and more. Krista’s newest endeavor is a narrative podcast, the First Mate’s Log, which tells the story of a three-year sailing journey.

Krista is a Senior Fellow and Co-Director of the International League of Conservation Photographers.
