Maggie Burnette Stogner
Roles: Director
Maggie Burnette Stogner is Executive Director of the Center for Environmental Filmmaking and a professor of Film and Media Arts at American University. She brings over 30 years of filmmaking experience to the Center and to the classroom, from a decade at National Geographic TV & Film to her independent production company she Blue Bear Films, creating films and immersive media for world-touring cultural exhibitions to independent social and environmental documentaries with outreach campaigns that inspire and inform. Her recent films include the new, expanded version of “Upstream, Downriver” (2025) and the award-winning 30-minute films “Upstream” (2022) and “Unbreathable “(2020). Maggie is an executive member of Women in Film & Video, voting member of the National Academy of TV Arts & Sciences, and a judge for the Emmys, Jackson Wild, and other Awards.
