Rebecca Kormos

Roles: Director

Rebecca Kormos first arrived in Guinea in 1995 with a mission to find out how many chimpanzees lived in the entire country. Over 18-months she traveled throughout Guinea, discovering that although the chimpanzees had disappeared in many parts of the country, in the Fouta Djallon highlands they were still abundant due to the cultural beliefs of the people living close to them. It has been Rebecca’s dream to return to Guinea to tell the story of this beautiful relationship between humans and chimpanzees, so she is grateful to Kalyanee for making this dream come true. Rebecca is on the Executive Committee of the IUCN SSC Primate Specialist Group, Section on Great Apes. She has been an Honorary Research Fellow at Stirling University and Visiting Scholar at the University of Berkeley, California. This is her first film.
