Gabriella Canal, a Latinx documentary filmmaker living in New York City, tells stories rooted in identity and immigration, with a focus on women’s voices. As a producer, she’s worked with The Atlantic, John Leguizamo’s NGL Studios and Global Citizen. Her independent work as a director and DP has been featured by The Video Consortium, New York Women in Film and Television and the National Association of Latino Independent Producers. Her last short documentary, “No Man’s Land,” just had its New York premiere at DOC NYC, and received the Audience Award for Best Short Film at The Florida Film Festival. She is now freelancing as an Associate Producer with Insignia Films, where she’s producing a feature length documentary about the largest universal basic income experiment underway in rural Kenya. In 2021, she graduated with honors in documentary filmmaking from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.
