This narrative short explores the poetic effects of NASA’s Apollo 8 mission and its 1968 Earthrise photo on the life of a retired English teacher — and on the astronauts themselves. This was the first time in human history we had an image of the Earth from outer space. “We were the first humans to see the world in its majestic totality,” as one of the astronauts said, “and we felt small and immensely large at the same time.”
