The Environmental Film Festival’s Annual Benefit Reception was held Thursday, February 6 at the Mexican Cultural Institute of the Embassy of Mexico. The night’s honorees were Rear Admiral Susan J. Blumenthal M.D., M.P.A. and Senator Edward J. Markey. Rear Admiral Blumenthal was on hand to accept our Environmental Champion Award on behalf of herself and her husband, Senator Markey (in the form of these beautiful whale paintings).

“Friends, the children are counting on us to do what is needed now so they have to go to the history books to learn there was ever a climate crisis.”

The night also featured a special film tribute by Francisco Campos-Lopez celebrating 20 years of joint Mexican-U.S. efforts to preserve Laguna San Ignacio in Baja, California, the last pristine breeding grounds and nursery for Pacific gray whales.
