Tommy Wells is the Director of the District of Columbia Department of Energy & Environment (DOEE). Appointed January 2015 by Mayor Muriel Bowser, he is chiefly responsible for protecting the environment and conserving the natural resources of the District of Columbia. With a career in public service that spans 32 years, Tommy crafted the Anacostia River Clean Up and Protection Act of 2019 that has generated over $19M in funding to protect and restore the Anacostia River. Director Wells served as a member of Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) 6B from 1995 to 2000, Chair of ANC 6B from 1997-1998, and was elected two terms as DC Councilmember for Ward 6 from 2006-2015.
