In his younger days a rugby player and cameraman for the French Army, Bruno Sauvard now lives in the south of France. His film work includes commercials, music videos, documentaries, and narrative films. Also a wine enthusiast, he has remarked that for Wine Calling, he wanted his approach to be as innovative as his subjects’:

“It was from the beginning an obsession for me to break the codes of [documentaries], specifically the ones about wine, too often shot in a very academic way… My film is about rebellious winemakers, its form had to be in tune with them.”
