Nonny de la Peña, Ph.D., is the founding director of Arizona State University’s new Narrative and Emerging Media Program located in downtown Los Angeles and the founder of Emblematic Group, where she uses cutting-edge technologies to tell stories — both fictional and news-based — that create intense, empathic engagement on the part of viewers. With more than 20 years in print, documentary and film production before turning to immersive technologies, Nonny has been called “The Godmother of Virtual Reality,” by the Guardian and Engadget and Fast Company named her “One of the People Who Made the World More Creative.” Widely credited for pioneering the form of immersive journalism, she is one of CNET’s 20 Most Influential Latinos in Tech, a WSJ Technology Innovator of the Year, and a Wired Magazine #MakeTechHuman Agent of Change.
