Michael Parfit

Michael Parfit is a British citizen living in Canada. He was born in London, and grew up in London, Brazil, and the United States, and also holds US citizenship. He has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Southern California. He has written five books and numerous articles for National Geographic, Smithsonian and other magazines. His book on Antarctica, South Light, was a New York Times Notable Book of the Year. His magazine writing has won numerous awards. He co-wrote the script for the IMAX film Antarctica, and wrote the script for the award-winning IMAX film Ocean Oasis. He is co-director, editor and scriptwriter of Saving Luna, a Mountainside Films’ multi-award winning theatrical documentary, and The Whale, a major reworking of Saving Luna, with Ryan Reynolds as narrator. He holds a pilot’s licence with an instrument rating and has flown, on assignment and for his books, in many remote locations, from the Amazon to Australia and New Zealand to the high Arctic.
