Dr. April Melvin

Dr. April Melvin is a Senior Program Officer at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine where she manages the day-to-day activities of the Polar Research Board. She also supports the Board on Atmospheric Sciences and Climate and the Thriving Ecosystems portfolio within the Climate Crossroads Initiative at the National Academies. In this role, she coordinates studies and facilitates program development on a broad range of issues related to the polar regions and climate change.

Dr. Melvin is an environmental scientist by training and has 20 years of experience studying the impacts of climate change and air pollution on the health of ecosystems and society. This work includes contributing to our understanding of how forest management affects forest health and regeneration and estimating the potential economic impacts of climate change on public infrastructure and wildfire response costs in Alaska, among other projects.
