Lynne Cherry is a NY Times best selling children’s book author/illustrator (The Great Kapok Tree; A River Ran Wild), a climate communicator and producer/director of 13 award-winning Young Voices for the Planet films, now on PBS, that champion youth solutions to the climate crisis and inspire young people to lead the way to a sustainable future. Lynne will talk about making films for youth and adults that overcome doom and gloom and energize people with hope for the future; She will also discuss the importance of considering psychology, social science and social justice when presenting troubling environmental issues. Lynne’s most recent film, The Power of Words and the accompanying The Courage to Act curriculum document Jaysa, a youth from a disadvantaged community, speaking out and helping close down the coal-fired power plant that caused her asthma.
