Laurie Benenson founded Movieline Magazine, serving as its editor-in-chief for six years. She went on to write for the New York Times Arts and Leisure Section for five years as a West Coast correspondent on film and television. An ardent environmentalist, she is the chairperson of the board of The Amazon Conservation Team, serves on the board of TreePeople, is a member of the Leadership Council of the Natural Resources Defense Council, and is a strong supporter of RainForest Action Network, Conservation International, Bioneers, and the Violence Policy Center. Her films include Dirt! The Movie, The Hadza: Last of the First, Kiss the Ground, Cracked Up, Fantastic Fungi, and Changing of the Gods.
