John Hildebrand

John A. Hildebrand is a Distinguished Professor at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography of the University of California at San Diego. He obtained a B. S. degree in Physics and Electrical Engineering at the University of California San Diego, and a Ph.D. degree in Applied Physics from Stanford University. He has been on the research staff of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography since 1983. He regularly teaches classes on bioacoustics, experimental laboratory acoustics, and marine mammal biology. He has contributed to more than 200 referred publications, on topics ranging from underwater noise, to sound production by marine mammals. His recent research has focused on ocean ambient noise, and the detection and classification of marine mammal sounds from large datasets of underwater sound.
