Sonia Demiray

Roles: Moderator

Sonia grew up across the Americas and Europe. After studying Sciences of Information at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain), she completed her education with strategic planning seminars from McCann-Erickson Worldwide and a Masters in Mass Communications at Towson University in Baltimore. Even before finalizing her M.A., Sonia moved to Miami where she managed multimillion dollar award winning advertising and branding campaigns across the Americas. In 2000, Sonia founded DemirayINK, an MDOT, SWaM, and MWUCP certified Minority and Woman Owned Small Business in Washington, D.C. DemirayINK subcontracts with federal and state government agencies, private companies, and consults for larger communications firms.

While always enthusiastically involved in environmental conservation, Sonia, increasingly alarmed by the continued trajectory of environmental degradation and assault on our limited natural resources, actively volunteers developing communications, educational programs, and engagement campaigns for several organizations that advocate for the good stewardship of our resources. These organizations include the Sierra Club, Climate Emergency Mobilization, Sea Shepherd, and the Frederick County Forestry Board. Together with like-minded colleagues and friends, she is also in the process of creating a pro-bono Climate Communications Coalition to help environmental organizations coordinate their outreach and spread their core messages though media and educational programs.
