Willem Berents

In the past Willem Berents worked as an instructional designer and introduced film and film techniques in educational and training materials for teaching biology. He has been working as an independent filmmaker and cinematographer for more than 25 years. In this capacity he left his mark on cinema successes such as ‘Holland, Natuur in de Delta’ (2015) and ‘Wild Amsterdam’ (2018). While filming on assignment for the archives of The Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision, he noticed nature in specific areas of the country completely ignored and decided to make a film about ‘unseen’ nature in industrial man-made landscapes. Willem developed the concept and did all necessary research for Wild Port of Europe together with his wife, Melanie Kutzke (producer). He wrote the screenplay, directed the film and filmed most of the footage himself. Willem holds a master’s degree in Literary Studies from Tilburg University.
