Yoko, a humanoid robot, travels from planet to planet delivering mysterious packages. Among those planets are distinctly Earth-like places, where an unspecified apocalypse has rendered human beings an endangered species in a landscape of detritus. Japanese cult filmmaker Sion Sono shot these dystopian sequences in the real-life aftermath of Fukushima, casting non-actors personally impacted by the disaster, blurring the line between the whimsical sci-fi speculations and painful documentary realities. The result is The Whispering Star, a haunting and unique parable of our environmental future.

Directed and produced by Sion Sono. Presented with the Freer Gallery of Art.
