This film explores the life of Atlanta-based artist Michi Meko, expressed through layers of mystical meaning. It delves into journeys, navigation, and wayfinding into the unknown, highlighting the buoyancy of our souls and survival. Michi’s struggle to orientate in pitch blackness and discover his metaphysical balance is at its core. As a postmodern cartographer, Michi lives within the parallels of urban and rural worlds, influenced by urbanization, humanity’s disposability, culture, injustice, waste, nature, and wilderness. His art seeks to answer his place in this unfamiliar world and how it defines a new relationship between his past and new expression. Michi found his voice in nature as a fly fisherman and outdoor enthusiast. His journey inspires a new mindset and possibilities for everyone, especially African Americans, bringing his journey to life through a complex topographical language that fuses past icons with a new iconographic future.
