This short National Park Service documentary film follows two biologists working to save rare and endemic forest birds in Haleakalā (Maui’s national park).
From the mountains to the sea, beautiful forest birds used to cover the entire island, but after an invasive species of mosquito decimated the population of birds, only a small group of honeycreepers exist at the higher elevations of Haleakalā. With this hard to access rain forest as a backdrop, Erika and Chris uncover what technology could help restore native populations of birds and show what would be lost if humans fail to act and prevent the bird’s extinction.
