Eva Weber

Originally from Germany, Eva Weber is a London-based director working in both documentary and fiction. Eva has an MA in TV Drama from Goldsmiths’ College and has also successfully completely the Advanced Programme/Project Development Lab at the National Film and Television School. Eva began her career making several award-winning short fiction films, before joining the British Broadcasting Corporation in 1998. Whilst working as a director for BBC Broadcast, she directed numerous promotions, commercials and branded films for the BBC and other television and advertising companies. Since leaving the BBC, Eva has directed several award-winning documentaries through Odd Girl Out Productions, as well as continuing her work as a freelance director and creative for companies such as the BBC, Red Bee Media, and Turner. Her films include: ‘The Intimacy of Strangers’ (winner of the President’s Award at Full Frame), ‘City of Cranes’ (winner of the Award for Best Documentary Short at Lost Angeles Film Festival, broadcast on Channel 4 and POV), ‘Steel Homes’ (premiered at IDFA and selected for Sundance) ,‘The Solitary Life of Cranes’ (nominated for the International Documentary Association’s Distinguished Short Award), ‘Night, Peace’ (screened at the Barbican in London), ‘Reindeer’ (premiered at LA Film Fest, with subsequent screenings at Sundance, AFI Fest and Telluride) and ‘Black Out’ (premiered at IDFA, and winner of the Aljazeera Jury Award). Eva is currently developing a number of feature length projects, both through Odd Girl Out Productions and working with other companies. Amongst others, she is working on the fiction feature ‘Let The Northern Lights Erase Your Name’, based on the novel by Vendela Vida. With this project, she took part in the 2013 Sundance Institute’s Screenwriters Labs, the Directors Lab and the Composers & Sound Design Lab at Skywalker. Eva is the joint recipient (together with Vendela) of the Sundance Institute Mahindra Global Filmmaking award and of a SFFS/KRF Filmmaking Grant.
