João Jardim is a Brazilian filmmaker. He graduated in journalism from City College and studied film at New York University . Participated in the core of the director Carlos Manga , on TV Globo , where he performed the miniseries “Engraçadinha” and edited the Maria Moura Memorial and August . He edited different works by Walter Salles and Eduardo Escorel for independent TV. He was assistant director in feature films by Murilo Salles ( Two-Faced Knife ) and Cacá Diegues ( Dias Melhor Virão ). He directed commercials for some of Brazil’s top advertisers.
His first feature film, Janela da Alma , won 11 national and international awards and took more than 140,000 people to theaters in 2002 . Pro Día Nascer Feliz , his second feature, is a documentary about the adverse situations that the Brazilian teenager faces inside the school.
Along with the British Lucy Walker and the Brazilian Karen Harley, João Jardim co-directed the documentary ” Trash Extraordinário “. The film was nominated for the best documentary Oscar in 2011 and won awards at the Berlin Film Festival and the Sundance Film Festival .
