Eyes Open

Eyes Open: 35 Years of Witness & Wonder is the theme for our April 8-17, 2027 Festival!

The DC Environmental Film Festival (DCEFF) today announced the theme for its landmark 2027 edition – Eyes Open: 35 Years of Witness & Wonder.

Since 1993, DCEFF has brought thousands of films to audiences in the nation’s capital and beyond, exploring planetary challenges, visionary changemakers, and natural wonders. With Eyes Open as their guiding theme, the 2027 Festival will celebrate film’s enduring power to inform and inspire, while also honoring the filmmakers, activists, and scientists who continue to draw attention to some of Earth’s most pressing issues.

“With Eyes Open, we celebrate the work of filmmakers who for 35 years have trained their lenses on the beauty and complexity of our planet,” said Monica Schorn, DCEFF Executive Director. “But this moment demands something of us in return. We challenge our audience and ourselves to not merely be observers, but to open our eyes to possibilities for stewardship and a more sustainable future.”

The 35th Anniversary DCEFF will take place April 8 through 17 at theatres, universities, museums, and embassies across the D.C. metro area.

The 2027 Festival will present dozens of new films from around the world, as well as robust panel conversations with filmmakers and experts. They are accepting film submissions now through November.
