SUMMARY:Human Rights Watch Film Festival: Razing Liberty Square (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:DCEFF is excited to be a presenting partner on this virtual screening of the Human Rights Watch Film Festival. \nAs rising seas threaten Miami’s luxurious beachfront\, wealthy property owners are pushing inland to higher ground. Residents of the historically Black neighborhood of Liberty Square—the first segregated public housing project in the South—are the new target of an upcoming “revitalization” project due to their location 12 feet above sea level. From Academy Award nominated filmmaker Katja Esson\, Razing Liberty Square shares perspectives from all angles— residents\, community advocates\, teachers\, developers\,\, and politicians—following the redevelopment from start to finish. \nIn-person screenings in New York City: Friday\, June 2\, and Tuesday\, June 6. \nStreaming to viewers in the US: Monday\, June 5\, through Saturday\, June 10. \nUse exclusive code RESIST23 for $2 off both digital and in-person tickets.

SUMMARY:Earth Focus Environmental Film Festival: Delikado (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:DCEFF is excited to co-present this virtual screening with the Earth Focus Environmental Film Festival! A virtual conversation will immediately follow the screening with Director and Producer Karl Malakunas and DCEFF Director of Programming Brad Forder. \nPalawan appears to be an idyllic tropical island. Its powder-white beaches and lush forests have made it one of Asia’s hottest new tourist destinations. But it’s a battlefield for a tiny network of environmental activists dedicated to protecting the island’s spectacular natural resources. The film follows Bobby\, Tata and Nieves\, as they put their lives at risk in order to stop politicians and big business from destroying the Philippines’ last ecological frontier.
