Watch Online Wednesdays presents a film from our 2012 festival, Waste Land (90 min.) directed and produced by Lucy Walker. The film follows Brooklyn-based modern artist Vik Muniz as he travels to Brazil to visit the world’s largest garbage landfill, Jardim Gramacho. Muniz photographs the landfill’s “catadores,” local garbage pickers who sift through the landfill to create art from recycled materials. His photos of the catadores mimic famous paintings and demonstrate the transformative power of Muniz’s utterly unique artistic style.
We hope you enjoy watching, and feel free to leave feedback on the film in the comment box below. We look forward to hearing your thoughts!
