Sharon Squassoni

Sharon Squassoni has directed the Proliferation Prevention Program at CSIS since 2010. She joined CSIS from the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, where she was a senior associate in the Nuclear Nonproliferation Program. From 2002 to 2007, Ms. Squassoni advised Congress as a senior specialist in weapons of mass destruction at the Congressional Research Service (CRS), Library of Congress. Before joining CRS, she worked briefly as a reporter in the Washington bureau of Newsweek magazine.

Ms. Squassoni also served in the executive branch of government from 1992 to 2001, including in the Nonproliferation Bureau and the Political-Military Bureau at the Department of State and in the Arms Control and Disarmament Agency. She is the recipient of various service awards, has published widely, and is a frequent commentator for U.S. and international media outlets. Ms. Squassoni received her B.A. in political science from the State University of New York at Albany, a master’s in public management from the University of Maryland, and a master’s in national security strategy from the National War College.
